Mixing pop, rock, swing and lounge, New York-based Jet Set Six is John Ceparano, Andy Burns, Josef Pelletier, Steven Gluzband, David Detweiler, and J. Walter Hawkes. The group's releases include, Livin’ It Up and Life in the Jet Age, and it has opened for the B-52s and Smash Mouth.
For our first invitational, we gave a group of musicians the following assignment: Create a song based—directly or in the most oblique way imaginable—on public domain material. Some of the participants chose to work from public-domain recorded music purchased for this project, while others contributed unique covers of older traditional tunes.
