Formed in 1999 by Fred Thomas, the Michigan collective Saturday Looks Good to Me albums include the Polyvinyl releases All Your Summer Songs and Every Night, as well as Sound on Sound (Redder Records), a compilation of out-of-print singles and B-sides.
Poet James Merrill’s productive use of a Ouija board for his work, discussed in Mitch Horowitz's “Spellbound” (also in this issue), got us to wondering: What kind of illumination—spiritual or otherwise—might musicians gain from a “talking board” Early in the summer Esopus sent Ouija boards to 13 participants, requesting that they use them in some way to create songs.
