ARTIST’S PROJECT: JASON POLAN
"Favorite Things about New York" (2008)

For the fourth Esopus subscriber invitational, the New York–based artist asked readers to share their favorite things about the Big Apple. Polan received more than 100 submissions, and went on to draw each one from life.

Michigan native Jason Polan’s illustrations and projects have appeared in Metropolis, The New Yorker, and ARTnews. His self-published artist’s books include Every Piece of Art in the Museum of Modern Art, a collection of line drawings of all the artwork that was visible to the public at the museum during a two-week period in 2005. Polan, who has exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe, is currently working on the project “Every Person in New York,” which is his ongoing attempt to create a drawing of everyone he meets in his hometown of New York City.
